Gold and other metals are in a long term bull market and it likely has years to go. At the moment though many of the gold/silver mining companies are still not making profits and are trading at very high PE ratios even with the price of gold over $600. The inflation adjusted all time high of gold would be close to $2,000 and at that price the PE ratios would likely be much lower but we do not see them coming down yet so it is a bit hard then to buy these stocks based on valuation but buying the patterns has worked out well. Metals with more attractive PE ratios, so perhaps better valuation plays, would include copper, uranium, nickel, aluminum, zinc and lead. But here the largest group shown are gold/silver and if the base prices continue then at some point the current high PE ratios will come down as especially the small companies start to make profits. Right now and it appears that over the coming weeks and maybe months, gold and silver are retracing their moves up as they were much too fast. At the bottom of the page the gold chart shows the retrace targets. Some like to buy on break outs or pullback to support after break outs.
